Summary of Experience
James E. Hosking consults primarily in the areas of facility master planning,
functional space programming, business and program development, and ambulatory
care planning. With over 30 years of healthcare consulting experience, Hosking
has worked with community hospitals, academic health science centers, and
healthcare systems completing a variety of facilities, strategy, and operations
assignments.
Recent engagements include:
- Functional space programming for a 300-bed
replacement hospital, incorporating operating concepts to reduce
staffing requirements 15 percent.
- Master site and facility planning for
a medical mall complex integrating physician practices and inpatients
with a shared clinical ancillary pavilion.
- Ongoing strategic and facility planning
for a regional healthcare system to improve service distribution
in key market segments and strengthen market position.
- Site selection, market analysis, and
implementation planning for a multi-site ambulatory care network.
Prior to forming Hosking|Klute Healthcare,
Hosking held positions as a partner in two major accounting firms
and in a healthcare consulting firm. In all of these organizations,
he led healthcare facility and equipment planning practices. Hosking
also worked as a healthcare management engineering consultant providing
operations consulting to a large academic medical center.

Hosking is a Fellow of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants,
Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, and American College
of Healthcare Executives.
His recent speaking engagements include presentations to the American Society
of Healthcare Engineering, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the
Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, the American Association
of Healthcare Consultants, and various other healthcare organizations. Additionally,
Hosking has authored several book chapters and published numerous articles
in national healthcare publications.
Education
Hosking earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in
Hospital Administration and Finance at the University of Chicago. He holds
a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Industrial) from the University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor.
